THE NEVERENDING STORY (1984)
Released on Boxing Day the same year Moviedoc was born, this family favourite throughout the 80’s and 90’s has never been seen by Moviedoc, until September 2015! It’s a shame to have missed out on seeing this during my childhood, for the wonder and fantasy this adventure film created would have been so much more effective then, than it is now. With technology taking over the way it has these past 15 years, THE NEVERENDING STORY feels and looks severely invalid and shoddy once told from within the book. Even for its time, the editing work is extremely rough but little Barret Oliver’s performance (who hasn’t acted in a film since 1989) stills stands out. His sense of adventure and enthusiasm as the little boy looking for an escape from a nasty and isolating world truly keeps THE NEVERENDING STORY worth sticking with, to the ending.
