Ice Cube and Kevin Hart invite you to step in for the follow up to their blockbuster hit from 2014, RIDE ALONG, which grossed over $130 million off a $25 million budget in the US. Riding off a wave of success, RIDE ALONG has granted director Tim Story an additional $15 million budget for the sequel. How has it been spent? Let’s start with where first – Miami. The action moves from Atlanta to Miami, one year later. Ben (Hart) is getting married to Angela (Tika Sumpter) in just one week’s time. Still out to impress his soon to be brother-in-law and law enforcer colleague, James (Cube), Ben convinces James to give him a chance to prove himself on a dangerous drug-ring case going down in Miami.

Ride Along 2 Poster

RIDE ALONG travelled by as expected; giving its target audience the exact dose of exaggerated humour along with enough action to satisfy. With even more action than before (that’s some of the how to the aforementioned question), but less comical scenarios and gags, RIDE ALONG 2 might have a harder time satisfying that same audience just as much. The laughter and entertainment to be derived from the verbal exchanges Cube & Hart do battle in, a handful of situations they get themselves into and Hart’s incessantly chatty, overly animated style is most certainly present, albeit not as consistently as it was in the first film and all too repetitive throughout RIDE ALONG 2. Sometimes, it even gets rather annoying, but not for too long thankfully. This action comedy’s best new recruit comes in the form of a police officer who is working the case in Miami, Maya (Olivia Munn), bringing some freshness to this new sequel that a little too often, tastes rather stale.

RIDE ALONG 2 – Film Trailer

Footnote to Parents
I feel like I say this with almost every film that comes by, but let’s keep RIDE ALONG 2 for eyes aged 13 and over. It contains sequences of violence, some language, drug material and sexual content (no nudity or sex scenes though – more the kind of content you see in a FAST & FURIOUS film).

Moviedoc wishes to thank Linda from Universal Pictures, Universal Pictures and Hoyts Melbourne Central for the invite to the Australian Premier of RIDE ALONG 2.
