EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT is so very special in so many ways, but perhaps none more so than this fact – it is the first film shot on location in the Amazonian jungle and Amazon River in over 30 years. This Colombian production, nominated for Best Foreign Language film at the most recent Academy Awards, and winner of 22 awards at film festivals around the globe, chronicles the autobiographical adventures taken from the diaries of two Scientists searching for a rare flower known for its healing powers. They are German-born Theodor Koch-Grunberg in 1909 and American-born Richard Evans Schultes in 1940. Both men throughout this magical yet dangerous expedition, are guided by the same shaman, Karamakate.
