The representation of this documentary’s titular personality and the connection audiences effortlessly form with him are of similar quality and brought to a level that one would expect and ordinarily experience watching an Asif Kapadia (DIEGO MARADONA, AMY, SENNA) documentary. 

Celebrating the life and career of the world-famous opera star, Luciano Pavarotti, PAVAROTTI uses never-before-seen footage and a series of intimate interviews to reveal the man behind the vocal sensation. 

If nothing else, we all know Luciano Pavarotti as one of The Three Tenors. Let me tell you, when this operatic singing group make their appearance in this documentary, it is one of this year’s cinematic highlights that left me with Goosebumps. But before PAVAROTTI reaches that crescendo somewhere throughout, an absolutely wonderful time is had getting to know this hugely endearing and bubbly man that existed inside the enormously talented and passionate singer and performer the world got to know. This completely captivating film engagingly captures its subject and is a testament that Luciano was a man full of love for all. While often sharing and spreading his love far and wide, this documentary doesn’t shy away from where this intrinsic part of his nature may have got the better of him and left him with some regrets. Its honesty earns it respect.

Every piece of Luciano’s life captured and chosen to screen throughout PAVAROTTI has been very thoughtfully selected and is outstandingly arranged. This superbly edited documentary presents a clear purpose that places it a cut above most other documentary features. Another standout segment worth a mention is the insight afforded to Luciano’s meet and greet, and eventual friendship with a member of the royal family who is sadly also no longer with us. Highly recommended!
