JELL’S MINI REVIEWS

THE HUNT

The controversial black comedy/horror about twelve people who awake in a field to quickly realise that their lives are in danger. These right-wing ‘deplorables’ have been selected by a group of leftist ‘elite’ to be hunted for sport. The Hunt is largely satirical and if not taken too seriously, is actually a lot of fun. Not really the horror film I was expecting, but it certainly had plenty of laughs and good gore/shock value.

THE CURRENT WAR

The Current War is the true story of the race between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to bring electricity to the American people. Often turning into a battle of ego and pride, this is a fascinating exploration of the beginning of something we all often take for granted today. Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon as Edison and Westinghouse respectively are strong in their roles, as too is Nicholas Hoult as the obsessive compulsive but brilliant Nikola Tesla. This film didn’t receive a lot of fanfare during its brief cinema release prior to the closures, but it’s one to keep an eye out for once it hits streaming services.

BLOODSHOT

Yikes, what a shit fest. Perhaps it should have been called ‘Bloodshit’. In this latest comic book adaptation, Vin Diesel is a soldier who is biologically engineered with nanotechnology to become virtually indestructible. In the right hands, he could be an incredible weapon…but in the wrong hands, pandemonium would ensue. Unfortunately, this is some formulaic rubbish with terrible script writing and nonsensical casting choices. They have Australian’s playing American’s, Brits playing Australian’s (poorly), American’s playing Brits and none of them for any reason that is relevant to the script. Most mind numbing and irrelevant action film since last years Gemini Man.
